Map Designer
About the Role

We need Map Designers who can design gameplay layouts for playable maps.

This is not a 3D art role.
You design the spatial structure of a map using basic shapes — boxes, ramps, cylinders — to define how players move, fight and interact with the space.

Once the layout is done, a Concept Artist provides the visual direction and a Map Artist brings it all to life in 3D.
Your job is the gameplay foundation they build on.

Freelance, no contracts, no fixed hours.
Map creation is infrequent — we're building connections with layout designers we can reach out to when new maps go into production.

Payment Model

Maps are paid as a fixed commission agreed before production, split among the three pipeline roles:

Map Designer: 15%
Concept Artist: 15%
Map Artist: 70%

A popularity bonus based on sustained player engagement after the first month may also apply. Details are being finalized.

Terms may change in the future, but anything already agreed upon stays as-is.

Application Task

Submit a 3D blockout of a hypothetical map layout, plus a written design rationale.

Build the layout using primitive shapes (boxes, ramps, cylinders) in any 3D software you're comfortable with.
No texturing or art needed — just the spatial structure.

Your rationale should explain:
1. Why lanes, zones and chokepoints are placed where they are
2. How spawn points are balanced
3. How sightlines and cover create gameplay variety
4. How the layout serves the chosen game mode

AI use is strictly forbidden.

Include all files needed to view the blockout.
Tell us about your experience with level design, game design, or spatial reasoning.

Submission Targets

  • Touchdown — two opposing bases with connecting lanes and a contested middle
  • Chaser — enclosed arena with varied elevation and cover for evasion and pursuit
  • Deathmatch — open combat space with multiple engagement zones and routes
